Overview

Cheddar is a live news channel which was founded in the United States. Its primary focus is on financial news, but it will also cover new products, technology, and other services. The channel broadcasts live from the New York Stock Exchange and the lawn of the White House in Washington, as well as from various briefing rooms.

This channel is dedicated to millennials and distributes its content on streaming platforms like the standalone Cheddar app, Amazon Prime Video, Sling TV, Pluto TV, YouTube and Facebook Live. In 2017, the channel racked up 148 million views on all of its available platforms.

The content focuses on stocks and technology, and the channel earns its revenue from agreements with streaming platforms and brand integration. In 2017, Cheddar managed to make more than 11 million dollars.

In 2018, Cheddar’s founders decided to increase its revenue and attract more viewers by creating a second channel, known as Cheddar Big News. The company managed to earn more income and emerge as a noteworthy selection in the general news sector. Cheddar, however, remained a channel focused on financial and technology news.

Channel Guide

The content on Cheddar is similar to that offered on CNBC, and that’s why the channel is positioned as ‘CNBC for millennials’. Since quality TV content is costly, Cheddar had to come up with solutions to maintain an acceptable quality at lower production costs.

For a short period in 2016, the channel launched subscription-based interviews with CEOs and other prominent people. However, at the same time, short videos were available for free on Facebook.
Since then, Cheddar has changed its approach. Now, the program sustains its expenses using agreements with streaming platforms, and doesn’t limit its offering to the target audience as a TV network on cable television might do.

Nowadays, the channel offers videos about business, financial news, sports, and more. Science is also a category on Cheddar. The live streaming service also provides a series of original creations, such as Cheddar Examines, The Vault, and The Point with Jon Steinberg (the founder of the service), to name but a few.
