Overview
One of the most well-known channels around is Nickelodeon, often referred to as Nick. It has been around since the 70s, launching in 1977 and positioning itself as the first channel which was designed for childrens’ programming. Based in New York City, this channel is owned by ViacomCBS and the primary demographic is children aged between 2 and 17. That said, some of the titles which air on this channel are aimed at family viewing. Originally, Nickelodeon was Channel C-3, and it aired Pinwheel as its main offering. It relaunched as Nickelodeon two years later. There was no advertising on the channel until the 80s, and Warner-Amex sold the channel with MTV and VH1 in 1986 to its current owner, Viacom.
