Overview
The Paramount Network is a US-based TV channel with a rich history. It started out as The Nashville Network, or TNN for short. Its broadcasting history begins back in March 1983, and the primary focus was country music, outdoors shows and motor racing coverage. The main demographic was the Southern United States.
The network switched hands a number of times from 1991, going from Gaylord Entertainment Company to Westinghouse to Viacom in 1999. At this point, TNN began airing off-network series, sports entertainment and movies. It was renamed The National Network in September 2000, followed by Spike TV in 2003. Spike TV had the aim of targeting a young male audience.
In 2018, Spike became Paramount Network in order to become the flagship outlet of its namesake company. When new Viacom CEO Bob Bakish restructured the media business, it was decided Paramount would be one of the six flagship brands – alongside MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick JR, BET and Comedy Central.
