Overview
Since 1996, one of the cable TV networks available to American viewers has been the Science Channel. This network is owned by Discovery Inc and offers programming on topics such as animal science, space, prehistory, ufology and wilderness survival. There are around 65% of US households with television who have access to this channel, according to 2015 figures.
Originally, the channel was named Quark, and the other channels launched alongside it were Discovery Home & Leisure, Discovery Kids and Discovery Civilisation. The channel was renamed to Science Channel in 2002, and its sister channels include Animal Planet, Destination America, Discovery Channel, Investigation Discovery and Oprah Winfrey Network.
