Disney is restructuring its business, and part of this move has resulted in Randy Freer stepping down as Hulu CEO.

The restructure is due to Disney strengthening its direct to consumer business by making use of its own executives.

A press release stated that Disney is merging Hulu’s business operations with its direct to consumer division in order to ‘rapidly grow [its] presence outside the US’.

This means Hulu still stands a chance of rolling out in international locations alongside its new streaming service Disney+.

Hulu executives now report to Disney executives, and all Hulu and streaming operations are headed up by Kevin Mayer.

Mayer said: ‘I want to thank Randy for his leadership the last two years as CEO and for his collaboration the past several months to ensure an exceptionally bright future for Hulu.

‘With the successful launch of Disney+, we are now focused on the benefits of scale within and across our portfolio of DTC businesses.’
