Fans of The Mandalorian have been waiting for this day for almost a year, and now it’s finally here – The Mandalorian has begun releasing its second season, and episode 1 is available to stream on Disney Plus now.
Those of us who are particularly sharp-eyed will no doubt have noticed there were a number of Easter eggs in the premier episode, but if you couldn’t catch them all or don’t know what an Easter egg is, we’re here to fill you in on what you missed.
Gamorrean fight club
When The Mandalorian Takes The Child to a space fight club to gather information, there are two Gamorreans facing off in the ring. Where did we first see these pig-like specimens? In Return of the Jedi, of course.
Twi-lek fight club
The Gamorreans weren’t the only ones in the space fight club who brought back Return of the Jedi nostalgia. The Twi-lek who was in the role of bouncer outside the venue was also first seen in that movie.
No to Stormtrooper helmets
As The Mandalorian and The Child walk through a city one night, they are seen near walls covered in graffiti. But this isn’t just any graffiti – it’s in the form of Stormtrooper helmets adorned in big black crosses. Those up to date with the full franchise will immediately remember the Empire’s defeat in Return of the Jedi – and know everything is far from rosy now.
Return of the Abyssin
Many fans have commented on the appearance of Gor Koresh in season 2 episode 1, who is asked for information by The Mandalorian. The single-eyed, green-skinned species is known from his scene in the cantina in Mos Eisley in A New Hope – also known as the time Luke and Obi-Wan were first introduced to Han and Chewbacca.
The Zabrak
We see The Mandalorian take on a Zabrak, and those who can cast their minds back to The Phantom Menace – or even just season one of this show – will remember these creatures. In The Phantom Menace, Darth Maul was a Dathomirian Zabrak, while the season one Mandalorian editions were working as bounty hunters against Cara Dune.
The Spaceport
While we’re on the subject of The Phantom Menace, those who were quick enough to catch the mention of Mos Espa may remember it as the spaceport settlement which first made its debut in this movie. Anakin Skywalker was also seen here as a child.
One for the video game fans
If you have played Star Wars: The Old Republic, you will no doubt know about Mos Pelgo. This town, located on Tatooine, was mentioned in the Knights of the Eternal Throne expansion pack. Excitingly, this is the first time the location has actually been seen.
Dragon!
In the first episode, we see a Krayt dragon – a creature which originates from Tatooine and is hunted for the pearls inside them. In A New Hope, the skeleton of another Krayt dragon is seen, and Obi-Wan makes a call imitating this dragon in order to scare off Tusken raiders.
The fate of Sarlacc
If you’d ever been wondering what happened to Sarlacc – from way back in the original trilogy – your answer comes in this episode of The Mandalorian. The Krayt dragon ate the creature, who was used by Jabba the Hutt originally as the punishment for prisoners.
Episodes of The Mandalorian season 2 are airing weekly on Fridays on Disney Plus between October 30 and December 18, 2020.
