The Batman restarted production recently after a pause caused by its star Robert Pattinson testing positive for COVID-19.
Filming is taking place in Liverpool, England, and the outdoor shoot yesterday meant we got a good look at all the action.
Along with Pattinson as Bruce Wayne (aka Batman), we also saw Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

The first trailer for The Batman was released during the virtual convention DC FanDome back in August. Fan anticipation was high for October 2021, when the film was set to be released – but unfortunately delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic ended up reshuffling the DC release slate. Shazam!: Fury of the Gods, Black Adam, and The Flash were all delayed – and The Batman was pushed back to March 2022.
Now, fans at least have some sneak peeks to tide them over until then.
Pictures from the set at St. George’s Hill reveal what appears to be a funeral – most likely the one in the trailer, as Pattinson appears to be wearing the same clothes and has his hair styled in the same way. The picture of the deceased from the trailer also featured on the set.
I’m still in disbelief that this is Colin Farrell pic.twitter.com/UQrojpdJcb

Fans were particularly excited to see Kravitz as Catwoman, aka Selina Kyle. She looked sleek and fashionable in a leather-look all black outfit, knee high boots, and a stylish fascinator. She also walked arm in arm with John Turturro’s Carmine Falcone, one of Gotham’s many crime bosses.

Accompanying them was Farrell as the Penguin, or Oswald Cobblepot. Fans are already suggesting that The Batman’s makeup team deserve an Oscar for their work – and it’s difficult to disagree considering the scale of Farrell’s transformation.
Dear Lord. #ColinFarrell as Penguin @TheBatman.
Easy early contender for a makeup Oscar. pic.twitter.com/p011e4dKgO

Interestingly, a video captured Pattinson’s Wayne appearing to approach Falcone – and being pushed away by Farrell’s Cobblepot. It’s unclear what the characters were saying to each other, but considering Wayne’s night-time quest for justice, it’s likely to be related to Falcone’s criminal activities.
Someone suited up as Batman was also reportedly spotted – though whether this is Pattinson or a stand-in is difficult to say.

Pattinson’s Wayne was photographed by what appears to be Gotham’s press as he arrived to the funeral, though with what looks like bruises or cuts on his knuckles, he didn’t exactly fit the part of Gotham’s famous billionaire playboy. This makes sense, considering Wayne is at the start of his crime-fighting career and so isn’t as experienced as other incarnations of the character that we’ve seen onscreen.
one thing I’ve noticed about these shots from THE BATMAN is that Bruce Wayne’s knuckles are all banged up. I wonder if that will come up in the flick; it’s not very subtle. https://t.co/r6NppCqdKX

Though Paul Dano did not seem to be in attendance, the Riddler’s presence was still clearly felt in the scene. Men in dark green jackets and black balaclavas could be seen on set, and one appeared to have a pattern on his back that featured a question mark. People holding signs with ‘lies lies lies’ and ‘our day of judgement’ were also present – which is very similar to the Riddler’s fixation on liars in the trailer.

Many fans also noted similarities between the key characters and their appearances in the comics.
Falcone can be seen with scratches down his cheek, and in Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s graphic novel Batman: Year One, it was Catwoman who gave him the scars. He also has a scarred cheek in Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s Batman: The Long Halloween (pictured below).
FALCONE HAS THE SCARS
THIS IS NOT A DRILL
I REPEAT
FALCONE HAS THE SCARS ON #THEBATMAN

Considering Selina Kyle is sporting some impressively long and sharp nails, it’s not too much of a stretch to guess Catwoman may have inflicted the damage in this film, too.
