New streaming service Apple TV+ launched on November 1, and with it came several titles such as See, The Morning Show, Ghostwriter and Oprah’s Book Club. Further titles will be launched in the coming months, and one of those is The Banker. Apple has now revealed a trailer for the movie, which stars Samuel L Jackson, Nicholas Hoult, Anthony Mackie and Nia Long.

The Banker is based on a true story, chronicling the journey of Bernard Garr and Joe Morris who are played by Mackie and Jackson respectively. The two entrepreneurs develop a plan to create an empire in the finance and real estate industries during the 1950s and 1960s. They assist other African Americans in finding their way to living the American dream in the process.

Garret’s wife Eunice, played by Long, helps with the endeavour. They train a working class white man – played by Hoult – to act as the face of the company, while Garrett and Morris play the parts of janitor and chauffeur. It isn’t long before their enterprise is looked into by the federal government, which threatens to impact the entire empire.

The feature is directed by George Nolfi, and originates from a script written by himself, Niceole Levy, Stan Younger and David Lewis Smith. It will initially be released in US cinemas on a limited basis on December 6, then move to the streaming service in January 2020.
