Overview

AXS TV is a television channel based in the US. It is owned by Anthem Sports & Entertainment and offers three kinds of content – music, entertainment and combat sports. It’s likely that most know of AXS TV due to their interest in professional wrestling and martial arts.

The channel was first brought into life in 2001, but it had a different name – HDNet. Initially, HDNet aimed to provide sporting events, general entertainment content and concert programming in HD. However, they underwent a complete overhaul in 2012 as many competitors were offering HD content as the norm and they were losing viewers.

Now, AXS TV offers content which focuses on entertainment and pop culture, while also keeping its live music programming. In 2019, more than 50 million American households had access to the channel, which indicates that the rebranding project was successful in its goal of expanding viewership.

Channel Guide

The music content you’ll find on AXS TV primarily comes under the Pop and Rock genres. Fans will also be able to find a broad range of interviews, concerts, panel based shows and documentaries.

For those into something a little different, there is combat sports programming such as Combate Americas available. AXS TV is also host to professional wrestling promotions such as Women of Wrestling and Anthem-Owned Impact Wrestling.

In terms of its music-related content, AXS TV offers various concert events on both a global and a national level. For instance, they have a Sunday night concert series that broadcasts performances from popular artists, such as Led Zeppelin, Carrie Underworld, Neil Young, and even Elton John.

AXS TV also offers popular themed artists takeovers with numerous bands in day-long blocks during which they feature music videos, interviews, concert performances and more. Some notable takeovers include those from Matchbox Twenty and Slash. There are also other taped and live music events.

Notably, AXS TV broadcasts WOW – Women of Wrestling. In 2018, the channel announced that they had obtained the rights to air the professional wrestling league for women.

In terms of entertainment, AXS Live offers a daily show from LA which is available weekly from Monday to Thursday. It covers news related to fashion, entertainment, celebrity, and music.

For music enthusiasts, Breaking Band in 2016 was a quality original music series. Well-known artists were paired with less experienced ones for mentoring purposes and, finally, the pairs performed together. Donovan Leitch hosted the show.

In 2017, AXS TV hosted a number of concert specials featuring Queen, Def Leppard, Willie Nelson, and Merle Haggard, among others. During the same year, the channel celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love and had an event lasting for one whole month. Concerts honored Jerry Garcia and The Grateful Dead, while documentaries followed the lives of famous artists, such as Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and The Doors.

All in all, AXS TV is a great channel that targets people who are passionate about music, entertainment, fashion, and more. They offer a broad range of programming that entertains teens, young adults, and a more mature audience by having high-quality content and exciting original series.
