Yesterday (July 28th), the nominations for the 72nd Primetime Emmys were announced. Streaming originals scooped several nominations, making up over half the nominees for Best Drama Series – and Netflix even broke a record previously held by HBO with a massive 160 nominations.

HBO’s Watchmen leads the charge with 26 nominations, including Best Limited Series.

Disney Plus’s The Mandalorian scored a Best Drama Series nomination – but it’s up against stiff competition, with the likes of Better Call Saul, Ozark, The Crown and Stranger Things in the same category.

This year’s nominations are the first for Disney Plus, which launched last year. With The Mandalorian season 2 on its way, along with an Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor and several Marvel TV shows arriving soon, we’ll see if Disney Plus can replicate their success of a huge 19 nominations (15 for The Mandalorian alone) in the years to come.

Apple TV+ broke into the Emmys with several nominations for The Morning Show, including Best Actor and Actress in a Drama Series for Steve Carell and Jennifer Anniston respectively. Quibi also got their introduction to the Emmys, bagging 10 nominations.

The Emmys will take place on September 20th, and ABC will broadcast the ceremony live. You’ll be able to stream the ceremony totally free with a 7 day free trial from fuboTV when ABC is added to the service this summer. You’ll also have access to plenty of other live TV, including sports and channels like NBC and AMC – all totally free with your 7 day free trial.
