Disney Plus original and Captain America spinoff The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was due to be released this August 2020. Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic caused a production shutdown, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series became another in a long line of TV shows and films to grind to a halt.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is set to pick up where Avengers: Endgame left off, with Falcon (Anthony Mackie) handling Captain America’s iconic shield. We’ll also see Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes (AKA the Winter Soldier) and Emily VanCamp’s Sharon Carter. However, trouble looms in the form of US Agent (Wyatt Russell) and Daniel Brühl’s Zemo – who hasn’t been seen since 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.

Now, Brühl has revealed an update on the series. On returning as Zemo, Brühl commented: ‘Kari Skogland, the director, came to Budapest and we recorded something with me being Zemo, and I was very happy and enthusiastic to see the mask. I was incredibly thrilled to go back because I remember that I had a lot of fun being in something completely different and getting to explore the MCU and become part of that’.

He also discussed his enjoyment at being part of the MCU, saying: ‘I have the fondest memories of collaborating with all of these wonderful actors, and to see Sebastian Stan again, and Anthony Mackie this time around, and to come back to something which, on the one hand, felt common and known, and on the other hand, being something completely new and something fresh’.

As for the status of production, Brühl revealed: ‘We were affected by the coronavirus whilst we were shooting the show, so hopefully we’ll be able to return very soon. We were not able to finish and to wrap it up. That’s still something that we have to do. Fingers crossed that it will happen, as soon as possible’.

While you wait for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, you can stream the MCU from Iron Man all the way up to Endgame with a Disney Plus subscription now. You’ll also be able to watch the entire Star Wars saga, including The Mandalorian, and classic Disney movies. Why not try Disney Plus today?
