A new version of Ghost in the Shell is coming to Netflix imminently, and the TV series has a completely different style compared to the original anime.

Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 is released on Netflix on April 23, and focuses on Section 9 tackling cyber threats after a financial crisis results in an AI driven war.

The show has already been renewed for a second season, but for now the first one will comprise 12 episodes.

The original series received critical acclaim during the 1990s, and has since been transformed into a movie starring Scarlett Johanssen.

The style of graphics used in the new series has been criticised for appearing too similar to children’s shows, and not reflecting the gritty tone of the storyline.

Meanwhile, there are plenty of other anime series – or the original Ghost in the Shell anime – available with a FunimationNow trial on Prime Video Channels.
