Marvel fans are currently watching new limited TV series WandaVision, with Falcon and Winter Soldier coming up next in March, but there is even more good news on the horizon as another series set in the Kingdom of Wakanda is being planned.
The project has writer-director Ryan Coogler at the helm, with the work forming part of a five year TV exclusivity deal with his production team Proximity Media. Those who aren’t aware of Coogler should know he directed and co-wrote Black Panther.
Coogler’s upcoming work also includes writing and directing the sequel, Black Panther II, which is set for release on July 8, 2022. However, the new Wakanda series – which will make its debut on Disney Plus – is the first project as part of the new deal.
While there aren’t too many details about the Wakanda project just yet, there will no doubt be references and possibly even crossovers with the Black Panther movies. This is good news for Marvel fans, who are spoilt for choice when it comes to upcoming series.
Not only are WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki either airing now or on the horizon, other series from the MCU set to come up include Hawkeye, Ms Marvel, What If…?, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, Secret Invasion, Ironheart, I Am Groot and Armor Wars.
As if that wasn’t enough, the Proximity Media deal also includes shows for other branches of the Disney streaming platform. Coogler has revealed that ‘We’re already in the mix on some projects that we can’t wait to share.’
