Captain America spinoff The Falcon and the Winter Soldier should have been premiering on Disney Plus this August 2020. Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic disrupted the entire entertainment industry – including Disney’s release slate. Along with Black Widow, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier TV series is facing a delay.
While Black Widow currently has a release date of November 6th, The Falcon and the Winter soldier has not yet been given a new premiere date. Filming was near complete when production had to shut down in March, and the show now has plans to resume filming this fall – but how long postproduction work could take is anyone’s guess.
The series is set to pick up after the events of Avengers: Endgame saw Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) hand his iconic shield over to the Falcon, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie). The TV show will follow Sam on his superhero adventures – along with his friends and allies Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), aka the Winter Soldier, and Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp). We’ll also see Daniel Brühl’s villainous Zemo, while Wyatt Russell’s US Agent will attempt to claim the Captain America mantle.
There isn’t yet a trailer for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but there is a Superbowl commercial that shows a small amount of footage available on YouTube.
Other upcoming Marvel shows include WandaVision, with Elizabeth Olson and Paul Bettany, and Loki with Tom Hiddleston. WandaVision was moved forward from spring 2021 to this December 2020, but whether it will still make that premiere date remains to be seen. Luckily, the second season of Star Wars spinoff The Mandalorian is still set to hit its October 2020 release date.
While you wait for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier to hit Disney Plus, you can catch up on the entire MCU with a Disney Plus subscription. From Iron Man all the way up to Endgame, as well as the exclusive Hamilton film and classic animated movies, there’s plenty to enjoy on Disney Plus – so why not try today?
