The Good Doctor is a medical show that has aired 3 seasons on ABC since 2017, with season 4 on the way.
It follows an autistic doctor with savant syndrome named Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), who works at the San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital. Savant syndrome is a condition where a person with a mental disability exhibits incredible skill and knowledge, usually in one certain area.
Season 4 will premiere soon – and will even feature the current coronavirus pandemic crisis.
When will season 4 of The Good Doctor come out on ABC and Hulu?
Season 3 aired last September and finished in March, so fans have been waiting a while for the next instalment. At the moment, there’s no word on if The Good Doctor will return for season 5. If there is another season, it will likely premiere sometime in 2021 – though of course it’s hard to predict release dates as the COVID-19 pandemic rages on.
Season 4 spoilers and fan theories
We know that the first 2 episodes of the season will focus on the coronavirus pandemic – however, the entire season will not. Series creator David Shore explained: ‘It would’ve been so false, I believe, to not deal with it…This has taken over every aspect of our lives for an unbelievable amount of time’, but added ‘I do think we have a responsibility, as entertainers, to provide a little bit of an escape’.
It’s also been revealed that Dr. Lim (Christina Chang) and Dr. Browne (Antonia Thomas) will grow closer in the aftermath of Dr. Melendez’s (Nicholas Gonzalez) death in the season 3 finale.
Plus, some new residents will join the hospital – and Shaun and Lea (Paige Spara) tackle a socially distanced relationship during the pandemic.

There is a trailer, and it’s available to watch on YouTube now. It shows the doctors struggling through the pandemic, and Shaun and Lea coping with their newly socially distanced relationship.
Season 3 recap – what happened?
Season 3 saw plenty of dramatic action.
Towards the end of the season, an earthquake destroyed a building with many of the doctors inside. Shaun survived, and he and Lea ended up getting together. Sadly, Dr. Melendez passed away after getting injured in the earthquake.
Dr. Park also considered moving back to Arizona to be closer to his son after an emotional experience with a patient.
Dr. Reznick then risked her career by performing surgery before her hands had fully healed from a procedure – damaging them to the point she may not be able to continue as a surgeon.
Where is The Good Doctor filmed?
Though the series is set in California, the majority of The Good Doctor is filmed in Vancouver. San Jose St. Bonaventure is fictional, with Surrey’s city hall standing in for the hospital.
