Absentia is an Amazon Prime Video TV show that has proved to be massively popular. It follows an FBI agent named Emily Byrne who goes missing on a case, and is declared dead in absentia.

When Emily makes her way home after 6 years, she discovers her husband has remarried – and Emily is swiftly pulled into a string of murders.

The series stars Stana Katic, and has run for 3 seasons on Amazon Prime Video.

When will season 4 of Absentia come out on Amazon Prime Video?

At the moment, season 3 is the final season of Absentia. However, the plot was resolved in such a way that fans are wondering if a potential season 4 will pick up where the last episode left off.

If a new season of Absentia did release on Amazon Prime Video, it would likely hit the streamer sometime in 2021.

Of course, this comes with the caveat that the coronavirus pandemic continues to cause a lot of disruption to the entertainment industry, so it’s even harder to predict release dates at the moment.

Will there be another season of Absentia?

Right now, nothing has been confirmed.

Amazon did pick up Absentia for a third season after the show was cancelled on AXN, though, so this points to the streamer believing Absentia has potential.

Season 4 spoilers and fan theories

Season 3 ended with Emily faking the death of her husband and son, then vanishing herself.

She did tell Cal Isaac (Matthew Le Nevez) where to find her, however, and the two reconciled at the end of season 3. At Cal’s suggestion that they could work together again, Emily took off the wig she was using as a disguise – so it’s entirely possible a fourth season could show Emily and Cal together again.

There’s also speculation that the Meridian file could come into play once more – and there are still questions about Emily’s husband and son, considering they weren’t seen in the flash forward.

Absentia season 4 cast

If season 4 did go into production, the cast would likely be the same as previous seasons. This has included:

  • Stana Katic – Emily Byrne
  • Patrick Heusinger – Nick Durand
  • Neil Jackson – Jack Byrne
  • Paul Freeman – Warren Byrne
  • Christopher Colquhoun – Agent Crown
  • Patrick McAuley – Flynn Durand
  • Matthew Le Nevez – Cal Isaac

Is there a trailer for season 4?

As season 4 hasn’t been confirmed, there’s currently no trailer. There are however trailers for the previous 3 seasons on YouTube, and you can stream all 3 seasons now on Amazon Prime Video with a 30 day free trial.

Season 1, 2 and 3 recap – what happened?

In season 1, Emily returned to her home after an absence of 6 years – during which she was missing and declared dead in absentia. She had no memory of her time missing, but because she survived her ordeal, her suspected murderer Conrad Harlow ended up being released from prison. Plus, her husband Nick had remarried and her son Flynn was being raised by the new wife, Alice (Cara Theobold). There was also a mystery of a corrupt FBI agent. Ultimately, the killer was revealed to be Logan Brandt, or Laurie Colson (Lydia Leonard).

In season 2, there were yet more shocking revelations. The major surprise was that Alice had been involved in Emily’s disappearance – which culminated with Special Agent Julianne Gunnarsen (Natasha Little) killing her. Emily was also investigating another serial killer throughout the season, and worked with Cal to track down the killer. This plot eventually joined up with the ongoing story around a gas attack on a federal building which opened the season.

In season 3, Nick was kidnapped, and Emily ended up going to Europe to unravel the mystery of Jericho. Eventually, Emily found Nick and rescued the refugee prisoners of Jericho – and it all connected to Meridian and the corrupt FBI agent. In fact, Julianne Gunnarsen turned out to be the corrupt agent. Emily managed to close the Meridian case, and faked her husband and son’s death before vanishing to start a new life – which is how Cal found her at the end of the season.

Where is Absentia filmed?

Though Absentia is set in Boston, it is in fact filmed in Sofia, Bulgaria.
