Season 2 of Amazon Prime Video’s hugely popular superhero original The Boys hit the streamer September 4th.
Instead of following season 1’s release model, where all the episodes were released at once, season 2 instead premiered with only 3 episodes available. The rest of the season will follow weekly, with a new episode every Friday.
Showrunner Eric Kripke explained why the series switched up its release schedule. He made it clear that this wasn’t a change mandated by Amazon, and said; ‘Our feeling is that when it airs all eight at once, it becomes a sugar rush of a binge. People burn through it in a week or two. There’s an intense amount of activity and then it sort of fades, and then everyone’s kind of off to the next thing’.
He added: ‘There’s so many great moments in season 2, we want to give it time to marinate so people can reflect on it and talk about it before they move on to the next thing and maybe just be in the conversation a little bit longer. I think a little anticipation for the fans is healthy, I think it helps the experience’.
The first three episodes have already generated plenty of buzz online, so we can expect this to only grow as each instalment drops weekly.
Plus, there’s also the after show Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys to enjoy – and season 3 is already confirmed.
You can stream The Boys with a 30 day free trial from Amazon Prime Video now. You’ll also be able to enjoy other hits in Prime Video’s massive entertainment library, like Knives Out and Absentia.
